STONE FIREPLACE TV MOUNTING
Mounting a TV over a stone fireplace requires a different technique, as well as different tools and hardware versus standard drywall and wood studs. I consider regular drywall TV mounting basic. Brick fireplace TV mounting is advanced. Stone fireplace TV mounting is tricky and for experts.
MOUNTING A TV ON STONE VS BRICK
Stone fireplace TV mounting is different from brick fireplace TV mounting so we will discuss both types of fireplace TV installations on this page.
STONE FIREPLACE TV MOUNTING

Stone fireplace TV mounting requires more skill level than brick TV mounting. If you have never attempted to install a TV above a stone fireplace before, we suggest contacting a professional to avoid damaging your TV and fireplace.
Our TV mounting service approaches stone fireplace TV mounting with extra care because the stones used over the fireplace are not genuine rock material. Some amateur installers may attempt to fasten the wall mounting bracket directly to the stones with very bad results. The stones crumble very easily and will not support the lag bolts supplied with the wall mount. To add to the trickiness, most stone fireplace surfaces are not even because the stones have a rough texture and create an uneven mounting surface. Most TV wall mounting kits come with a few small plastic anchors that will not fill the spaces or support your TV. We have a special technique to utilize the spaces between the stones which has 2 benefits.
- Less damage to your fireplace stone surface after removing the wall mount.
- Better support for your TV and wall mount.
Using the spaces between the stones requires matching the proper anchors and bolts to fasten the TV mounting bracket to the stone without the danger of the lag bots slowly pulling out over time. It may take a week or a month, but if not properly installed, the TV mount can separate from the wall causing the TV to fall and crash onto the floor.
The hardware and technique we use allows us to do a pull up with our feet off the floor on most stone fireplaces before mounting the TV onto the bracket.

BRICK FIREPLACE TV MOUNTING

Brick fireplace TV mounting is not as difficult as stone fireplace TV mounting. We line the TV mounting bracket up with the mortar lines as opposing to driving bolts directly into the bricks. Then we use special anchors and bolts to create a strong support so that we can do a pull up with our feet off the floor. Using the spaces between the bricks has 2 benefits.
- Bricks are very difficult to drill into and more expensive to replace.
- Damage to the space between the bricks is less of an eye sore and easier to repair. Mortar costs much less than bricks to repair.
